i know the truth is bitter but  in nigeria if a man decides to drive on the left side of the road claiming freedom of movement other road users who will be affected must talk and act as required.

firstly, i think it is important to challenge this notion of "current geopolitical regions" because through dint of repetition it is beginning to assume an unwarranted and unmerited status

there is no doubt that nigeria needs restructuring but restructuring of the east cannot occur in a vacuum.

it is clear that different regions are NOT equal either in terms of land mass or population. as such calls to elevate some parts above others will be challenged.

the facts are as i have stated

we came together as regions

north west and east

and these have been divided into states

any attempt to coalesce states into arbitrary and incongruous ZONES is mischievous and rejected

any negotiations must be mindful of [b]whence we came [/b]i.e regions.

the states that constituted these regions are easy to identify.

the old western region NOW has 7 states and 35 million people

the old eastern region   NOW has 9 states and 25 million people

the truth may be inconvenient but it MUST prevail

Population of Old West can't 10 million more than Old East when there are millions of minority groups and one large majority there as well. Where did u get that figure?

population has nothing to do with ethnicity it is about inhabitants

and that figure is the 2006 national census figure which has now been signed into law in nigeria, if you don;t agree with it you can approach the tribunal for example according to the figure i quoted lagos is 9 million . the state government disagreed and have gone to the tribunal but for now it stands,

those 8 states are 10 million more than the 9 in the east

Igboland alone has 30+million people. Ijaws have 15m, Ibibios have 5m, Efiks have 3m, others in the East have 2m total of the old Eastern Region is 55 million. Eastern Nigeria is the most populated Region in the federation.

so far no one has said anything about ethnicity with regards to those figures. all we have said is how many people live where. no one knows whether they are efik or ijaw

you just come here and make some claims which makes one wonder really. where do you get all that from .

It's common added with the Internet. Igbos living in Igboland (excluding those outside of Igboland) are in excess of 30 million. Ijaws are 10% of Nigeria hence they are 15 million, Ibibios are around 4% so they are +-5 million, Efiks are around 3 million and other minorities are 2m. All of these groups are in the old Eastern Region and their numbers are substantial.

Also according to this 1953 UN census if Nigeria (which is the only widely accepted census of Nigeria),

Hausas were 5,548,542 17.81%
Fulani 3,040,736 9.76 %
Igbos 5,483,660 17.60 %
Yorubas 5,046,799 16.2 %

Ibibios 766,764 2.5%

Making the West 20.4% of Nigeria
And the East 25.6% of Nigeria.

Im not concerned mainly about the population of the Igbos. What I'm concerned about is your claim that the West has more people than the East, and therefore deserves more states. It doesn't work that way.

it is not MY claim,

that is the result of the census in 2006 that has been ratified into law in nigeria.
it did not record ethnicity

why bring in efik and ijaw and all that into it.

whether or not you agree with it .

it has been adopted and there were no major complaints outside those that are still at the tribunal.

anyway to be honest i really don't see you as someone i can have a rewarding discussion with and i really don't have time for polemic so i will not respond to you any more.

The number of irresponsible posts that antagonized the demand for the creation of two additional states for South East geopolitical zone in Nigeria is one of the reasons I resolutely called for disintegration of Nigeria. I guess some of the essences of democracy are fairness, equity and justice.

In pursuance of practical democracy, Nigeria sublimely introduced geopolitical zones. Since the democracy is predicated on the game of numbers, the zones paradoxically must have equal number of states in order to produce equal number of senators since the vote in the upper chamber determines the faith of a bill. I shall even go further to demand equal number of geopolitical zone in northern and southern Nigeria. We must learn to balance the political acts in a tribally infused country such as Nigeria.

It is such idiotic style of polity or foolish display of utter bigotry or political inconsideration by certain nitwits who frowned at the demand of creation of more states in Nigeria so as to maintain a sense of equal political attainment lends courage to demand the cessation of federal republic of Nigeria.

The incessant political treachery executed in the acreage known as Nigeria since the amalgamation in 1914 induces agitation for disintegration of Nigeria. It does not appear Nigerians will ever get their political acts together. So it is adequate to call for total disintegration of Nigeria.

of course finger wagging and name calling are always a poor substitute for a reasoned argument though admittedly the resources required to produce the latter are less evenly distributed. thus we are constrained to comingle with rabble.

WHO was  involved

to the best of my knowledge this is a PDP concept . it is true that the PDP have ruled Nigeria since 1999 but that does not mean they will rule forever.

certainly if there are to be Geopolitical Zones in our National life there must have been some debate or other occurence outwith the PDP heralding this.

only ONE Northern governors forum

in short ONE north

No one has still been able to make a sensible argument in favour of State creation for an area with a smaller land size, Smaller population.

Whats the use of creating 7 states to serve a smaller percentage of the population when some states have 10-15m ppl cramped in them
